Ischoklad: Ice Chocolates are one of the easiest candies you can make. It is perfect to make when Christmas is right around the corner because it’s quick to prepare and looks so festive.

This recipe requires only two ingredients: chocolate and coconut oil. The key to success lies in using high-quality chocolate, as it is 100% where the flavor comes from. Feel free to substitute the dark chocolate with any other type you prefer.

You can elevate these candies with various toppings such as crushed nuts, candy bits, or licorice powder. Avoid using sprinkles, though, as they tend to melt into the chocolate, creating uneven puddles. For a Christmassy twist, try using white chocolate with crushed candy canes. If you decide to add flavorings, ensure they are oil-based rather than water-based to prevent the risk of splitting the chocolates.

In Sweden, during Christmas time, you can find small foil cups designed for making ischoklad at home. These cups are slightly larger than a thimble and resemble cupcake liners, but they are made of foil instead of paper. They look like this. I haven’t come across them in the US, but I haven’t actively searched for them there either.

The most challenging part is patiently waiting for the candies to harden in the fridge for a few hours. Remember to store and enjoy them cold, as the untempered chocolate easily melts upon touch. Although they can be left out for a while without melting, it’s recommended to refrigerate them.

This recipe yields a generous amount but can be easily halved. Ischoklad: Ice Chocolates make excellent gifts for chocolate lovers, as long as they are kept chilled!
